He did not believe in love after the disappointment of his first marriage to model Paty Boyd, who left him for one of his closest friends, Eric Clapton, but he met a secretary of Mexican origin who changed his life. She came into the musician’s life at a time when he was depressed and immersed in a world of drugs following the success of the band and the failure of his first marriage.
The couple would have met in 1974 at a Dark Horse record label party where Olivia was a secretary. Disappointed by the betrayal of Paty Boyd and Clapton, before trying anything with the young woman, five years younger, the Beatle would have hired a private detective to investigate her. The only thing the detective found was that the young woman was devoted to meditation and part of a modest family of Mexican origin that had emigrated to California. His mother was a seamstress, his father had a dry cleaner and his grandparents, originally from the state of Guanajuato, planted corn in the patio of the house.
Thanks to the young woman, Harrison began to learn about Mexican culture and fell in love with regional music. He also left the world of drugs to begin a more spiritual life, which in 1978 led the couple to embark on a trip to India. Upon their return they had their only child and were married shortly after.
The couple lived years of relative peace until Harrison was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1997. From then on, the couple toured the main cities of the world in search of a treatment that could help cure the disease, however, they only managed to ensure that the musician spent his last years in the best possible way.
But that was not the only misfortune that the couple had to go through, on Christmas 1999, a fan entered their house and stabbed the musician on different occasions while Olivia looked on, who began to hit the attacker with a lamp. until he managed to defeat him. However, Harrison could not defeat the battle against cancer and died on November 29, 2001 in the company of his wife and son. George always had to deal with the fact that his peers saw him as an apprentice and it ended up being one of the issues that accentuated his differences from the rest. He was always growing as a composer under the shadow of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, fighting for his songs to be recognized, something he only achieved when The Beatles fell apart and each one took their own path.
Dhani Harrison, renowned British musician, only son of the legendary ex-Beatle George Harrison and Olivia Trinidad Arias, was born on August 1, 1978. His foray into this fascinating universe began during the creation of his father’s posthumous album, “Brainwashed,” from November 2001.
