Abbie Hoffman

Abbie Hoffman (1936–1989) was an American political and social activist, writer, and co-founder of the Youth International Party, commonly known as the “Yippies.” Hoffman was a prominent figure in the 1960s counterculture movement, advocating for civil rights, anti-war protests, and environmental causes. Known for his humor and unorthodox methods, he gained notoriety with bold actions, like throwing dollar bills onto the New York Stock Exchange floor to protest capitalism, which caused a temporary trading halt.

Hoffman was heavily involved in organizing protests against the Vietnam War and was part of the “Chicago Seven,” a group of activists charged with conspiracy and inciting riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. He wrote Steal This Book, which became a cult classic for its anti-establishment views. His activism made him a symbol of rebellion.
