Thicke of the Night

Thicke of the Night

“Thicke of the Night” was a late-night talk show hosted by Canadian actor, comedian, and musician Alan Thicke. It aired in syndication from 1983 to 1984 and was produced by MGM Television. The show was an attempt to compete with the dominant late-night talk show of the time, “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.”

“Thicke of the Night” featured a mix of celebrity interviews, comedy sketches, and musical performances, along with a supporting cast that included comedians like Arsenio Hall and Richard Belzer. Despite Thicke’s charisma and the show’s ambitious format, it struggled to attract viewers and was ultimately canceled after just one season. The show is often remembered as a bold but ill-fated attempt to challenge the late-night television landscape dominated by Carson.

Though it was short-lived, “Thicke of the Night” remains a notable part of 1980s television history, exemplifying the challenges of competing in the late-night talk show genre.
